Maple Elementary: Where Learning Lives Outdoors

Maple Elementary School is a joyful and inclusive learning community where every student is known, valued, and supported as a whole child. Kindness, acceptance, and belonging are at the heart of our culture. We believe schools are strongest when students, families, and staff feel connected to one another, to their community, and to the natural world around them.

Our mission at Maple Elementary is to develop curious, confident, and compassionate learners through meaningful, hands-on educational experiences. Our collaborative and dedicated staff design learning opportunities that encourage exploration, connection to the natural world, and the development of socially conscious student leaders.

At Maple, we believe learning happens everywhere. It happens in classrooms and conversations, in our outdoor classroom and pollinator garden, and through the everyday experiences that help students make sense of the world around them. We know that children learn best when they are actively engaged, encouraged to ask questions, and given opportunities to explore, create, and discover.

Our schoolwide learning model emphasizes experiential learning, outdoor exploration, and a thoughtful, low-technology approach. Students spend meaningful time outdoors every day, engaging in hands-on learning that connects academics with nature, wellness, creativity, and their local environment. Technology is used intentionally and in balance with active, real-world experiences that foster curiosity, confidence, and independence.

Strong relationships and thoughtful planning ensure that all students grow academically, socially, and emotionally. Equity and access guide our decisions as educators, and we challenge students to think deeply, act with empathy, and take responsibility for their community and environment.
